Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant Role
Analyze manufacturing and operational costs to determine product pricing and profitability.
Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, procedures, and controls.
Prepare cost reports, variance analysis, and margin analysis to support management decisions.
Monitor inventory costs and perform periodic inventory audits and reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies related to cost accounting.
Work closely with operations, procurement, and production teams to understand cost drivers.
Analyze standard costs and recommend updates based on current conditions.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries related to cost accounting.
Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Preferred Qualifications of the Cost Accountant Role
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, financial analysis, and inventory valuation.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
Experience with ERP systems and cost modeling tools.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing or other cost-efficiency methodologies.
Ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
