Position Overview
The Senior Accountant is instrumental in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. This role manages the month-end close process, prepares financial statements, ensures compliance with GAAP, and partners closely with internal teams and external auditors. It’s a great opportunity for an experienced accountant to bring value through both technical expertise and strategic insight.
Core Responsibilities
Ensure all financial activities are in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies.
Manage the month-end closing cycle, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance resolution.
Collaborate with the Controller and CFO on the preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial reports.
Serve as a liaison across departments to ensure consistent and accurate financial data.
Oversee unclaimed property filings in compliance with state requirements.
Partner with external auditors and tax professionals to support audits and resolve complex accounting issues.
Maintain and update fixed asset records and debt schedules.
Compile bank reporting packages on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting process by analyzing trends and providing financial insights.
Maintain and update a rolling weekly cash forecast.
Stay current on accounting standards, conducting research and implementing relevant updates.
Develop and refine accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Support financial reporting deadlines, which may include occasional weekend work during close periods.
Take on other finance-related duties as needed to support team objectives.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of professional accounting experience, with a strong grasp of general ledger functions and account reconciliation.
Familiarity with AS400 and/or Innovative software is advantageous, but not essential.
Experience in the transportation, logistics, or supply chain sectors is a plus.
Technical Skills & Attributes
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Able to communicate effectively and work cross-functionally.
Experience with AS400/TMW systems is helpful, though not required.
